This is my web page to show how I built (at this time try to build) a homebuilt aircraft from a set of plans. I was inspired to create this website after visiting
Ron Wood's Sonex #0094 website.
I am not in any way affiliated with the company that distributes the plans or with the support of the aircraft. This is in no way a "How-to" build a homebuilt plane from plans. (Read the Disclaimer).
This is my first attempt at building a full size plane. I have built and flown several radio control planes. I do not have a private pilot license. At this time I don't beleive the Sonerai is considered a Sport Pilot class plane. Upon completion of the aircraft I will take on that investment in time and money to get a Private Pilots License.
I chose the Sonerai mainly because of price. The Peitenpole came in a very close second but I wanted a steel tube airframe and wanted to become familar with working with aluminum. My guestimate is in the $12 to $13,000 range for the Sonerai.
The Sonerai has folding wings so that it can be towed to and from the airport to save on storage expense.
The Sonerai can use engines that are more economical to maintain and operate. It can be flown at less than 4.5 gph.
If someone gave me a certified airplane I'd probably have a hard time affording the maintenance, storage and operating costs.
The Sonerai is a sharp looking airplane.
